London Thursday December 9, 2010

Greetings Everybody!
It's me, Julien the Baby!
On Thursday December 9, we headed to Westminster to enjoy the Changing of the Horse Guards. It was our first time taking The Tube!
You probably wonder *how* a little baby like me can take The Tube! Logistically, we strolled to the Tube Station Bayswater, which is on the District/Circle line. There's an entrance for strollers, which Mommy used with her Oyster card. Then Mommy and DOJ carried the stroller (with me in it!) and walked down the steps, because there weren't too many steps since Bayswater only hosts the District/Circle line, unlike other Tube stations which may host several different lines.

Here I am, waiting for the train. There's a train in the background, but that train was going in the other direction.

Once on the train, it was rather crowded.

In case you're worried, DOJ is the person in the orange coat! It seems that no matter where I am, whether inside or outside the house, there's always a parent or other very responsible person with me. Anyway our train led us directly to Westminster... and Westminster has elevators, so that after exiting the train, we take 2 or 3 different elevators to get to the street exit! It's very impressive - but only certain Tube stations have this service, so keep an eye on your Tube map so you know which stations offer it. For example, Bayswater doesn't have elevators!

Here's a very familiar site that we saw outside the Westminster Tube station: Big Ben! I think it's named after my playgroup, because there are a few Bens in my playgroup!

Here's a Horse Guard!

For the Changing of the Horse Guard, there's a big procession of men on horses!

They face off with a crew of other men on horses, but it's a very friendly situation. It's not like they're going to compete or joust with each other! One crew of men is about to go off duty while the other crew will start their duty!

There were *many* good photo opportunities here! After we got to see The Changing of the Horse Guards, we walked to Picadilly Circus and walked towards Mayfair.

We stopped at Fortnum and Mason department store. It's very pretty!

I had some Limon Gelato. Yummy!

After we departed Fortnum and Mason, we walked around Mayfair. There are lot of posh stores and arcades that are nicely decorated for the holidays.

This is an indoor arcade, with a glass ceiling!

We also stopped by the Browns & St Georges hotel, because Mommy first stayed there when she first went to London with her parents (Grams & Grandaddy X) and Aunt Nancy!

I loved the bunny topiary.

I think DOJ preferred the elephant topiary. After our visit, we ended back up at the Wolseley, where we all had another round of scones and clotted cream! Very yummy. After this, DOJ left us to visit his friend Alexis while Mommy and PoPo took me on a stroll before we took a bus back home. I was ready for bed after another fun day of exploration!
Love,
Julien the Baby
